October policy trends
1. TikTok, YouTube, Meta seeking Indonesia e-comm licenses (Reuters). TikTok talks with local platforms incl. GoTo’s Tokopedia; separate TikTok Shop app considered. Meta applied for promote-goods (not in-app checkout) license for FB/IG/WA. YouTube also weighing a license type. Trade ministry: TikTok would need an Indonesian subsidiary for an e-comm license.
2. TikTok told to remediate in Malaysia. Communications & Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil: compliance with Malaysian law still unsatisfactory after meeting TikTok Global VP Helena Lersch; follow-up with MCMC and TikTok. Unlike Indonesia’s e-comm ban on TikTok, Malaysia weighing factors (predatory pricing, data sharing, data sovereignty) before further decisions; TikTok Shop info under KKD review.
3. Shopify Markets Pro opens to B2B sellers (eligibility) — cross-border payments, shipping, duties; auto-detect business customers; still does not natively support B2B order types (seller acts as registered merchant).
Unique Partner note
Partner Kuaizi Tech (筷子科技) marked 3 years of its full-chain AIGC content commerce collaboration/growth platform — ~4,000 enterprise customers; >30M creative videos generated; >1.2B seconds of production video supplied.
