## Models are infrastructure — applications win the future

China AI industry scale cited from ¥138.9B (2020) toward ~¥1T by 2030. Nobel-adjacent AI science wins underline the era. Debate: model vs. app value. Baidu AI Cloud: foundation models are plumbing; value is improving lives and industries. July 2024 Robin Li: shift focus from model races to application innovation. Aug: Character.AI drops pretraining to focus on apps — Silicon Valley consensus that pretraining may concentrate like cloud among a few. Musk: GPT-5 may need 30–50k H100s (>$700M chip cost) → ~80% of firms exit pretraining. Goal: scene-optimized models that beat human workflow performance — not a single leaderboard-topping generalist.

## Qianfan in production

As China’s first major model platform, Qianfan after ~1.5 years: **~700M daily calls**, **50×** YoY call growth, **\>30k** enhanced models, **\>700k** apps on platform — into internet, industry, transport, etc. Qianfan 3.0 (Cloud Intelligence Conference, late Sept): end-to-end data → train → app deploy “Lego” toolchain for beginners and enterprises.
