# Unique Research | How Generative AI Is Remaking MarTech (Long Read)

_Unique Research · Insight · October 31, 2024_

If 2024 has one MarTech theme, it is GenAI in marketing scenes — sharper efficiency, deeper analytics, personalization, faster content. Brands moved first; the wave reached even Cannes Lions. Reckitt (IT + Digital with BCG) piloted GenAI across Gaviscon, Finish, and core marketing functions in ~4 months — deeper insight, faster creative, higher-quality output in shorter cycles. Accenture will fold Adobe Firefly Custom Models into Accenture Song, trained on industry data and brand guidelines. Capturing GenAI is not “add one more tool” — it needs strategy amid stack chaos.

## GenAI remakes the MarTech map

Scott Brinker & Frans Riemersma, _The State of Martech 2024_: MarTech CAGR ~**41.8%** in 2024 → ~9,295% growth over 13 years. Of **3,068** new tools in 2024, **77%** are GenAI-based; **53%** content-related (copy, image, video). Three change modes: (1) standalone GenAI for one job (content, chatbots) without full stack rebuild; (2) GenAI baked into Salesforce/Adobe-class platforms; (3) category disruptors (e.g. ChatFactory / ChatSpot) redefining CMS/MAP. ~2,324 AI-driven tools entered MarTech this year across 64 scenes; top 14 scenes = 73%. Adtech GenAI sparse — likely monopoly structure. Content draft/copy/research most popular (ops efficiency / cost) — but abandonment after “publishable” experiments is high; sales & data GenAI still under-mined.

## Why CMOs need AI-capable MarTech

**Pain:** ~90 cloud/marketing products per enterprise; CRM/CMS/DAM/CDP silos → data rich, insight poor. Bloated vendor sprawl under performance pressure. >⅓ of CMOs say teams lack skills to use the stack.

**Credera / Varun Sarin — three AI fixes:** (1) Natural-language interfaces unlock cross-stack insight (“show best email subject lines for this segment”) without waiting on analysts. (2) AI “hides” messy stacks — automate vendor/integration grunt so CMOs stay strategic. (3) Prompt engineering outranks deep technical skills — asking well beats knowing every API.

## Impact on sellers & buyers

**Sellers:** hyper-personalization from purchase/browse/social data; journey mapping with predictive stage-aware content; automation of email/lead scoring/social posting; real-time bid/targeting optimization; adaptive learning from campaign outcomes.

**Buyers / UX caution:** tech that only serves the seller (e.g. Double-11 SMS/call spam) destroys experience. Valuable MarTech raises efficiency for both sides.

## Implementation posture

Validate value proposition and tech maturity before big spend. Prefer measured pilots (Reckitt-style) over stack sprawl. Content GenAI is crowded; differentiation may live in sales intelligence, data science, and real-time agents. Watch category disruptors that rewrite CMS/MAP assumptions rather than bolt features onto legacy.
